Our Story
Westwind Structural was founded by Mathieu Henry, P.Eng., who spent more than five years designing homes across British Columbia before setting out on his own. Along the way, he saw a need for structural engineering that keeps home construction simple, with practical, easy-to-build designs that still harness modern construction technologies and best practices. Westwind was created to meet that need: to bring professional structural engineering to projects of every size, with clear communication and fair, sensible pricing.
The name is a personal one. It comes from the prevailing west winds of Georgian Bay, where Mathieu grew up sailing. A steady, dependable force that shaped the iconic windswept pines. Those same westerlies sweep across the BC coast where Westwind Structural builds today, grounding everything we do: dependable engineering, made to endure.
The Engineer Behind Your Project
I'm Mathieu Henry, a registered Professional Engineer with EGBC and the engineer behind Westwind Structural. I split my time between Vancouver and Whistler, and when I'm not drafting and engineering you'll usually find me out racing sailboats along the coast or up in the mountains chasing fresh powder on my snowmobile. The coast and mountain culture are a big part of why I've built both my life and my practice here.
I also care a lot about housing. I believe smart design and efficient timber construction can make quality homes more attainable. My job is to make the structural side of it clear and straightforward, so you can stay focused on the home you're creating. Whether you're a seasoned architect or a homeowner taking on your first build, you'll always be able to talk directly to the person doing the work, in plain language and without the runaround.
